September 6

There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:7.

I was so encouraged as I recently listened to a Jewish professor of the Old Testament give his testimony. He related how he had found Christ as the Messiah, and this verse was one that he quoted. Yes, Jesus will establish peace on earth from the throne of David. All the Jewish people, as well as all in the civilized world, long for this peace.

We can not look in the wrong place for this peace. The world keeps proclaiming that peace is near, yet the wars and rumors of wars continue. The current conflict between Islam and Christianity will not be resolved by any worldly ventures. Instead it will be the return of Jesus to claim His kingdom that will provide the one, true peace.

In the meantime we can have peace with God and the peace of God. Jesus provides this to the believer who places his trust in the salvation purchased for him at the cross. He Himself is our peace (Ephesians 2:14). I need to rest on this fact daily. Otherwise the snares and deceptions of the world will tear at me and cause me to be at unrest. Everything I need is in Christ.

Today Father, as we face this world, let me show the peace in my heart that You have created. Regardless of the world situations or even the perils that arise, You are my rock, my redeemer, and my peace. Thank You in the name of Jesus. Amen.
