September 2

Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.  2 Corinthians 3:5,6.

As we follow our Savior, Jesus, do we consider that we up to the tasks before us?  We are not to think that we are adequate by ourselves; that is, in the flesh.  But all of the adequacy is in Jesus, and He believes that we, as followers, are therefore fully equipped to fulfill His mission on this earth.  We are servants of the Most High, and we lack nothing that is needed because we have Him living within us.

My dear friends, consider yourselves as a holy temple, designed and equipped to reveal God to the people.  This thought should not be one that makes us boast of ourselves, but instead it should cause us to praise God all the more.  He has chosen us to be a messenger of the new covenant—the Spirit filled life that is made available to all who would listen and believe.  We are not presenting the Law, which would produce death.  Instead we present dependency upon the Holy Spirit, who brings a new life within us.  We need nothing more to equip us.  Praise God for His adequacy.

Dear Father, I want only to glorify Your great name.  Never let me think that I have not been properly equipped for the task.  Instead let me agree with You—that I need nothing more than Jesus in my life.  Each moment, each day, I can turn to Him and discover new ways for Him to prove His mastery of every situation.  By myself I am totally inadequate, but with You I sense the wisdom and power to accomplish Your every desire.  Thank You in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
