September 17

But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks.  Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?”  In all this Job did not sin with his lips.  Job 2:10.

Job had been asked by his wife to curse God and die.  She is reasoning from the plight of any man who is suffering the loss of possessions, and as if that were not enough, a man who is scraping away his boils from head to foot.  We often try to reason in the same way—using our circumstances to complain about God’s mishandling of our lives.  Yet there is another way to reason—using God’s view to see the overall perspective of His great love and grace toward us.  Job did not sin by complaining against God.

We can not define God by looking at our earthly situation.  We are in a damaged world, yes, but we cannot project that damage upon God.  The healthy Christian heart reasons from God toward man.  God has created us to be responders to His love.  We are to see His attributes in all the creation around us.  We can know that there is a master plan for our lives that will extend well beyond our ability to define.  We know that all things are working together for good to those who love Him.  Death, life, nor any earthly circumstance will not separate us from God.

Father, I ask today that You change my perspective of life as I walk among a damaged world.  Let me only see the wonders of Your grace—extended toward my fellow man and me.  Regardless of what happens I want to praise You and love You.  I trust You to lead my life, for to do otherwise is to allow me to fail again and again.  Thank You for causing all things to work for my good.  Amen.
