September 14

It is a trustworthy statement:  For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him; if we endure, we shall also reign with Him; if we deny Him, He also will deny us; if we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself.  2 Timothy 2:11-13.

This passage expresses very clearly the purpose and result of the gospel—we are His in Christ.  We died with Him at the cross and we are now resurrected to a new life with Him.  We will reign with Him in eternity.  We are not to deny Him in any way—neither to deny His presence within us or to deny His will over us.  We do not want to be told, “I never knew you.”  Yet, remarkably, when we fail to be faithful to His guidance, He is never unfaithful to continue to reach out to us—extending His hand in love.

I wish the world could understand these things.  But the world is not spiritually appraised.  I also want my fellow Christians to hold these truths closely in their hearts.  We serve a God of grace—the utmost and highest kind that we will spend eternity discovering.

Heavenly Father, we marvel over Your presence in our lives.  We are so undeserving, yet You overlook all of that when we trust in Jesus.  This is love without bounds.  This is love that describes You and only You.  Thank You that today I can discover a little more of this as we walk together in Jesus.  Thank You.  Amen.
