October 29
But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but
what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!”
And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up and immediately his feet and
his ankles were strengthened. And with a leap, he stood upright and began to
walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising
God. Acts 3:6-8.
Here we see the power given to the weakness of man. Peter,
the simple fisherman, filled with the Holy Spirit, can command the lame to
walk. We marvel at this, but isn’t it to be expected? Isn’t this power given
to us as well? We sometimes fail to recognize this, and as a result we look
much like anyone else around us in the world. We should not be surprised if we
should take God at His word and begin to act like we were possessing the very
nature of God—for indeed we are possessing Jesus.
Peter did not stop and think things over as he approached
the man. He did not search for the right words or the right technique. He just
claimed the truth and gave what he already had—the life of Jesus. How many
opportunities have we missed to serve our Lord by overlooking what we already
have?
Father, I pray today that I can just simply trust what You
have already given us. We are weak, earthly vessels, but You have placed Your
life within us. We plainly do not need any more. We cannot reason our way in
this world, we cannot grasp the needs of anyone around us, unless Your Spirit
guides and controls us. Let us start living and acting that way, instead of
just looking like we were empty vessels. Thank You for what You will do. Amen.
