So speak and so act, as those who are to be judged by
the law of liberty. For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no
mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment. James 2:12,13.
The people of this world often have a misconception of
Christianity. They may think that we live under a strict law that demands
obedience, and if the obedience is absent there must be strict punishment.
Actually we know that God also has the characteristic of mercy, and His mercy
triumphs over the harsh judgment. I have experienced that I love Him all the
more for His mercy. Jesus has said that He sets us free, and I now have the
freedom to discover all that He has intended for me. I am under a law of faith
(Romans 3:27). Although I was purchased by the blood of Jesus, I am set free to
follow Him in love—not in a forced obedience.
Christ has instructed us to forgive others and extend mercy
to them. In this way we are demonstrating the nature of Christ Himself. His
workings within us are changing us more and more into His image. Here there is
the freedom that God wishes us to experience, for when I discover that I am in
Christ I also find that the struggle to be accepted by God is over. I am now on
a path of freedom that God had in mind from the very beginning of creation.
Let us pray that our liberty will show to the world around
us. We will be a mystery to those who have not experienced the law of liberty.
In that manner many will question us and we will have opportunity to share our
faith. Thank You Father for sharing Your life and love with us. We are
partners in the life of Christ. In His name we pray. Amen.
