October 2

And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.  For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:1,2.

We all need to be reminded of this testimony of Paul.  It is so easy to think that because we know so many spiritual things, that we therefore must be spiritual.  We imagine that we have a clear vision of the gospel, and that we can address any situation with a clear understanding of God’s will.  Some of us begin to take pride in our knowledge of Scripture, and we are too eager to tell others how to lead their life, how to plan for the future, and how to establish the proper goals for their life.  Yes, I need to retreat to these verses—I need to know nothing except Christ and Him crucified.

The entire Gospel is summarized here.  We all are in desperate need of Christ.  He is the Savior, the atonement for our sins, the redemption of our souls, the origin of new life, and the glory of our future with Him.  There is nothing more to our existence than Him.  The realization of this sets me on the proper foundation for all that I say or do.  I may appear differently to different persons, yet underlying it all is my establishment in His life.  My life is no longer mine.

Heavenly Father, I marvel at the wisdom of Your plan for our salvation.  Knowing that the created being cannot climb to the stature of his creator, You provide the way for the creator to come to level of the created.  The cross is the central theme of all of this.  I need to know nothing else.  Thank You for Your grace and love which make all of this possible.  Remind of this as I go through the day.  Amen.
