November 5

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him. Nahum 1:7.

Our God is the only one who is truly good. We use this word, ‘good’, too often it seems. All goodness stems from Him alone. To the extent that we show any good it is a measure of His grace extended to us.

God is a stronghold in our days of trouble. Like a safe harbor He beckons to us to come and trust in Him. He will protect us and never allow us to suffer more than we can bear. For He holds us up, He shelters us--all the while allowing us to become more like Him in the process.

He knows us completely—as we might say, “warts and all.” Yes, I want to know Him, but I will never know Him to the extent that He knows me. Nothing I do or think or say is hidden from Him. Still, He loves me beyond comprehension. It just does not get any better than this.

Today, Lord, I thank You for Your great goodness. I will seek You in the midst of my trouble, and I thank You continually. You are always there for me if I would just turn toward You. Your arms are forever reaching out to me to gather me in. I thank You again and again. Amen.
