November 30

All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth---but as it is, they desire a better country, that is a heavenly one.  Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.  Hebrews 10:13,16.

In this wonderful chapter of Hebrews, God is citing the faith of those who went before us.  He is saying that these saints had a vision of a city before them.  They were journeying to that city.  We would do well to have the same mindset.

Many would warn us that we must not be too heavenly minded. Yet, in the final analysis we are better people when we have our eyes and our faith set upon God.  We will be better husbands and wives, better sons and daughters, and above all, we will have the proper perspective on where God is taking us—all according to His will.

That new city, the new Jerusalem, will be our eternal home.  Our minds cannot conceive, nor our hearts embrace, how wonderful that will be.  For it is the dwelling place of God as well, and we will spend eternity absorbing all that He has in store for us.  With our minds set upon Him, we will see ourselves renewed into a new creation that fully captures the very essence of Christ.  We will inherit all that Christ Himself has purchased for us.

Heavenly Father, we praise and honor Your name.  We are destined to share in Your glory for all of eternity.  How can we prepare ourselves for this, other than by submitting to You in every way in the life we now live here on earth?  We are in a preparation ground that only hints of the glory to come.  Thank You for making all of this possible through Jesus.  Amen.
