November 3
Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out
and come in before this people; for who can rule this great people of Thine?
And God said to Solomon, “Because you had this in mind, and did not ask for
riches, wealth, or honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor have you even
asked for long life, but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge, that
you may rule My people, over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge
have been granted to you. And I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such
as none of the kings who were before you has possessed, nor those who will come
after you.” 2 Chronicles 1:10-12.
In these perilous times how could we ask for anything more
than wisdom and knowledge? Solomon knew that he could not rule the people
without God’s wisdom. Where are these kinds of leaders today? The irony is
that in today’s complex world the need for wisdom is far greater, for the enemy
of God has placed an array of temptations before us that go beyond description.
The leader who can sort through this maze of confusion and deceit is critically
needed in our society. Will he/she appear? Let us pray for that outcome with
all sincerity and persistence!
It seems that leaders like this occur about once a
generation. God has a way of stirring them up before us at critical times.
Beyond that, we as individuals also need to seek wisdom and knowledge. These
characteristics are of course in Jesus. Since we have a position in Him we have
already received His nature. So, my friends, apply the mind of Christ to all
situations before you. We are to be marked by distinct differences with the
world. When we have the wisdom and knowledge of God the world cannot help but
wonder about where we have obtained these gifts. And then we are placed in the
blessed condition of having the opportunity to witness about Christ.
Thank You Father for giving us Your wisdom and knowledge.
We are partakers of Your Son, Jesus. We are not here to glorify ourselves, but
let us show Your nature for Your glory. Only through Jesus can we do this, but
we trust Him with our very lives. Amen.
