November 18

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow, we shall go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.”  Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.  You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.  Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and also do this or that.”  James 4:13-15.

How often have we done this very thing—to plan for tomorrow as if we were in total control?  Yes, we need to seek the Lord’s will in all that we do.  He will guide our path and make things turn out for the best.  In the process His will is being accomplished.

The mind set on tomorrow misses the opportunity to live today.  We are to be children of the moment—not waiting for tomorrow.  For in truth tomorrow never comes.  It is always today.

Lord, impress that fact upon me moment by moment.  I have missed so many opportunities to serve You ‘today’ because my mind was set upon my own plans for tomorrow.  Thank You for the saving grace that will set me free in Jesus.  I desperately want to learn to live in the moment.

Father, Your knowledge of our motives and thoughts is overwhelming.  You know what we think before we think it.  So teach me to trust You in all that I contemplate.  My future is Yours and not mine.  Let me be a vessel that shows forth You and not me.  Thank You and Amen.
