“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not
one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs
of your head are numbered. Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than
many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31.
We are so prone to think that God is not watching us. We
think that He is too busy. After all, aren’t many people trying to talk to Him
with their requests? Well, it turns out that our vision of God is often too
small. These verses show us that every detail of life here on earth is under
His scrutiny.
So we are of great value; so much that Jesus would give His
life for us. Do you take comfort in the fact that God is watching your every
move? We should. For it is His pleasure to see how we are performing—how we
are responding to the Holy Spirit. He is not condemning our flaws, but instead
He is praising our decisions to follow Jesus. He is looking for our ‘pressing
onward’ toward the call of Jesus. When we do this, with a host of witnesses
cheering us onward, we can know that God is taking pleasure in His creation. He
sees us in the image of Christ.
How could God know the number of hairs on my head? And of
course He knows that number for everyone else on the earth. This is
micro-detail in the extreme. But it is all because of His omnipotence and
love. Can we grasp that in eternity we will see His nature revealed in great
detail? I am longing for that new adventure as I see the world in its present
crisis. I am beginning to understand how Paul could want to leave this earth so
he could be with the Lord.
Thank You, Father, for Your ever-present examination of our
lives. You are the perfect creator who needs to see every aspect of Your
creation. Make us like that in all that we do, for we want to show that same
love for all those around us. Thank You again. Amen.
