November 14
Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; Thou wilt make me full of
gladness with thy presence. Acts 2:28.
Peter is giving a sermon to all who live in Jerusalem. It is shortly after the
Day of Pentecost. Peter has been transformed. No longer the disciple who would
deny Christ; he is now the leading one who proclaims Christ to the world. This
is an example of how God wishes to treat each of us. We are being made into His
image.
Peter says he is grasping the way of life. His spirit, no longer out of touch
with God, is now quickened and alive. God is breathing into Him all aspects of
the Christ-life. Shadows of his life in Adam may be present, but they no longer
will dominate him. Instead of the despair and lack of hope that had
characterized Peter’s denial of Christ, the exact opposite has occurred. He is
proclaiming that the source of all gladness has been found. He is equating
gladness with the very presence of Christ within his own heart. Yes, Peter is a
totally changed man.
Father, let me be more like Jesus today. Everything needed for life is found in
Him. Root out all remnants of my nature that was in Adam. I want only the new
life that is in Jesus. I know You will do this through Your Holy Spirit. Thank
You for restoring my spirit when I found life in Christ. My spirit now contains
the new creation that You have promised. But my soul seems to be damaged--it
harbors fleshly desires and motives that are contrary to Your ways. Restore my
soul-- my mind, my will, my emotions, so that they too become more Christ-like.
We are in for an exciting day as You work Your ways into me! Amen.
