June 7

Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven, with the waving strength of His right hand. Some boast in chariots, and some in horses; But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God. Psalm 20:6,7.

The distractions of this world are numerous. We are attracted on all sides by opportunities to boast in possessions and things that ultimately fail. It is so easy to be misled, and there is a false comfort in these distractions as we watch our friends and neighbors have apparent joy in them. But ultimately the light will show the futility of these ventures and misplaced allegiances.

If we boast, we are to boast in the Lord. Paul reaffirmed this in 2 Corinthians 10:17, as he quoted Jeremiah 9:24. Before the foundation of the world He is the source of our existence; He is the destiny of our future. But most importantly He is Lord of today! I need not seek other avenues of success for there is no real success outside of Him.

Today Lord, let me not boast in my own accomplishments. Prevent me from seeking fame or glory for self, for that is to deny Your presence and hand in all that I do. Let me see You in all that is around me so that I may continually marvel at Your grace. All honor goes to You, Lord Jesus. Amen.
