April 25

Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth! Tell Me, if you have understanding. Job 38: 4.

There is no other verse in the Bible that haunts me as much as this one. It flies in the face of all man's efforts to define such things as the origin of man, the age of the universe, or even the history of the earth. Sometimes we think we are so wise, yet we pale in comparison to Him.

In all of my science and engineering efforts, I have come increasingly to realize that everything we "discover" is really an expression of Christ. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created by Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Col. 1: 16-17. The search for the forces and particles that hold together a nucleus of an atom is really, knowingly or unknowingly, a search for Christ Himself. The study of the stars and their apparent distance is really a feeble attempt to look into Christ.
All space and time is held together by His nature. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. Rom. 8:19. No matter how orderly or beautiful we think nature is, it is crying out for a return to its condition before the fall of man. When we see Christ we will see nature returned to its undamaged condition.

Lord, as I start this day, do not let my arrogance think that I have any answers other than those found in You. Amen.
