For thus says the high and exalted One who lives
forever, whose name is Holy, “I dwell on a high and holy place, and also with
the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and
to revive the heart of the contrite. Isaiah 57:15
This is a remarkable verse which supports the first verse
of the Beatitudes regarding those of poor spirit. A contrite and lowly spirit
is one that is repentant—one that seeks restoration with the most high God. The
indwelling Holy Spirit inspires and causes us to be contrite, for we ultimately
know that we are inadequate within ourselves to lead the Christian life.
God, in His grace, recognizes this and has chosen to dwell
with those of a contrite heart. His purpose in doing this is to revive our
spirit—to conform it to the Holy Spirit. He is consistently giving us hope and
assurance, love and compassion, and above all a clearer understanding of the
Christ-life. Our renewed hearts experience the joy and the inspiration of God
as we walk on our journey through life. We can never repay God or even imagine
the cost of Jesus’ sacrifice for us. We can only be thankful and full of praise
for Him.
Dear Heavenly Father we claim no merit on our part, but we
acknowledge the infinite merit that is freely given as Your part of our life.
Thank You for the continual revival of our spirit, and we recognize the newness
and the purity of this new heart. Show us how to protect our heart and our
spirit from the enemy. Above all we give You all the praise. Amen..
