October 26

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.  Psalm 103:11,12.

We cannot grasp how far away our sins have been removed from us.  His love for us is also beyond measure.  In his own magnificent style, Charles Spurgeon says, “Boundless in extent towards his chosen is the mercy of the Lord.”  And then he adds, regarding the distance from east to west, “O glorious verse, no word even upon the inspired page can excel.”

We will spend eternity learning of God’s love, and we will never reach the point where there is no room for more.  And even on this earth we cannot conceive of the distance from east to west, for to travel east, no matter how far, is to never reach the point called west.  And of course the reverse is true—we cannot travel west and think that we have ever arrived east.  Wouldn’t you know that the Lord would arrange things that way—even with our sins?

Today, dear Father, let me walk in the newly found freedom of Your love.  I can feel accepted in my walk with You because of what You have already done on my behalf.  I cannot out-give you or ever stop thanking You for the forgiveness of sin.  Let me proclaim Your mercies to the world around me.  We will do it together in Your Son.  Amen.
