May 8
Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure upon me of
concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into
sin without my intense concern? If I have to boast, I will boast of what
pertains to my weakness. 2 Corinthians 11:28.
Paul suffered through many hardships, often without food or rest. His
concern for the churches was great. Often I have the same concerns, and yet I
know I have not suffered to the extent that Paul did. But it is true that we
should be concerned for our church. It is not that Jesus is not sufficient for
the task of the head of the church. It is that we, being weak, allow much
unnecessary hardship to come to our fellow believers. We are too prone to
criticize, all the while being unwilling to come to the rescue. We need to
recognize our weakness and turn them over to Christ. Then His strength will come
through.
I have a pastor friend who is very burdened for his church. Like Paul he
recognizes his weaknesses and limitations. How may I help him? Somehow, together
in prayer, we must see God’s purpose in all of this. We can pray that we will
turn our weakness over to Him. He will show us the light in the midst of our
darkness. He will provide His strength, His knowledge, His guidance, His
nurturing for all of His sheep.
Father, I pray for the wisdom to see my weakness. Do not let me think that I can
do anything without You. Let me see You beside me, bearing the burdens that are
too much for me alone. I want only to walk in peace beside You. Thank You and
Amen.
