May 5
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he
will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and
will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not
be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit. Jeremiah 17:7,8.
Blessings never cease when we trust in the Lord. In fact, as the above verse
reminds us, our trust is the Lord. A tree planted by water becomes a life
source for all those who would pass by. The tree is not there for its self—it is
there as a refuge for others. At the same time, carrying the thought of our
being likened to a tree, we ourselves will not need to worry about coming
events, perils, or attacks from the world around us. All because of the Lord who
is nourishing us.
A tree is destined to bear fruit. We have a husbandman who fully understands how
to tend our roots. Jesus, being the tree of life, knows of our needs. He alone
has experienced all that the world system could throw at Him, and He will remove
any anxious thought that we would have about today or tomorrow.
Heavenly Father, let me be today like a tree planted by a stream of water. The
world system is dry, and I would like to be available as a source of rest and
comfort for those struggling around me. This can only come true by Your grace.
Stand me up, make me straight, and give me “branches” that shade my fellow man.
It is great that we can work together. Amen.
