May 3

For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.  2 Peter 1:4.

As Bob Benson puts it, “I began to see that when I put what I had and was and am and hope to be with what He is, I had stumbled upon the bargain of a life time.”  (See You at the House, Generoux Nelson, (1989), pp. 102-3.)  Bob compares what we bring to a baloney sandwich, while God brings a huge feast.  Yes, we can visualize that, but at the same time we all know that even this analogy falls far short of the grace that God extends to us.

He has given us His Son, and everything we have and are and hope to be is in Christ.  Oh if only we could live that way, all the while expressing joy and thanks for what God has done.

We have escaped the corruption of the world, so let’s live that way.  Cling to His promises and we will be lights unto the world.

As Bob also points out, many of us seem to tightly grip our baloney sandwich and exclaim that God will never get that from us.  When will we realize that He wants only to give to us, not take anything from us?  Realizing that fact will change our life forever.

Father, we pale in comparison to Your holiness.  Let us this day see more and more of You, and less and less of ourselves. Thank You for Your nature that wants only to give.  We set aside all attempts at any self-merit, and we rejoice in Your merits.  Amen.
