May 28
And Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here;
and let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for
Elijah.” Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the
cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!” Mark 9:5,7.
How often I have thought that we crowd so many things into our church life. We
put things into an equal place with Jesus, all the while thinking and planning
as if we were the custodians of our ‘tabernacle’. We need to listen to Jesus!
Peter thought that he had a good thing going—let us prolong the good fellowship,
he thought. But what would Jesus want? He would want them to just listen to
Him—everything else would fall into place if they would only do that.
Lord, I have often fallen victim to this kind of man-made thinking. We treat our
building as if it were ours. We continually talk about ‘going to church’, when
all the time the church is the body of Christ. We plan our meetings with only
token acknowledgement of Jesus. We plan our finances as if we were a business.
Lord, we are acting like a disbelieving, worldly band of thieves who take from
You but do not honor You.
Today, Lord, get my spiritual eyes on You. Let me see and hear You in all that I
do. I do not require knowledge of what lies ahead; I only want to follow You.
Make it all real for me as we walk together today. Amen.
