May 21

Then the man bowed low and worshiped the Lord.  And he said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His lovingkindness and His truth toward my master, as for me the Lord has guided me in the way to the house of my master’s brothers.”  Genesis 24:26,27.

Abraham had sent his faithful servant to find the bride for Isaac.  This servant shows us a remarkable faith in the ways of God.  Traveling to this distant land was very difficult, yet he had not hesitated.  We are to do the same, as God calls us to serve Him.  Also this servant did not ask for immense detail—as we might do.  He knew only that he was to pick a wife from among the relatives of Abraham.  His only test was to ask the woman, whom he would meet, “Please let me drink a little water from your jar.”  If she offered to also draw water for his camels, then he would know that she was the one woman who was sought.  And so Rebekah did—she was the one!

We need to worship the ways of God, as well as worshipping Him as a person.  We cannot analyze what He asks us to do, as if it depended upon our intellect to decide upon proper actions.  No, we are to depend solely upon the Lord.  He does not want us to think that any praise should go to us.  We are to learn that He is the necessary cause and effect of everything we do.

Thank You Father, for the written example of this servant.  He is the model of how we are to serve You and Your Son, Jesus.  Never let me ask too many questions as I serve You.  All the time I just need to hold You in focus, as in my prayers and meditations.  You, alone, will see me through each task that I face today.  Amen.
