Let your eyes look directly ahead, and let your gaze be fixed straight in
front of you. Watch the path of your feet, and all your ways will be
established. Proverbs 4:25,26.
There is much wisdom in these words. I have learned over the years to evaluate a
person by the look of their eyes. As a child, and even as a young adult, I had
trouble looking a person directly, steadily, in the eyes. It seemed to stem from
an overall feeling of inadequacy. It was not my intent to appear “shifty”, but
it sometimes created that opinion in others. Today, it takes a conscious effort
on my part to maintain a steady look into a person’s eyes, and I can only
attribute any success in this area to the assurance of God that I am acceptable
in His sight. All praise is to Him.
Watching the path of our feet is another way to please the Lord. We are not to
be pulled into crooked paths that lead nowhere. The world system will constantly
beckon us to the wrong paths, the wrong motives, and unrealistic, harmful goals.
To the Lord these paths are crooked. When we walk with Jesus our path will be
straight—it will be directed toward goals that are pleasing and beneficial to
both man and the Lord. Time and energy will not be wasted in futile endeavors.
Today Lord, I know our path together will be straight. Give me the confidence to
look persons directly into their eyes. I will see the things that You see. We
will show the world around us that we are people of integrity and love. Thank
You and Amen.
