But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact
that law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and
rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those
who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals
and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound
teaching. 1 Timothy 1:8-10.
The Law of God is perfect and holy. It is designed to cause us to be aware of
sin and to eventually lead us to Christ, where we find righteousness by faith.
(Galatians 3:24). So in this passage from Paul’s letter to Timothy we see the
clear statement that the Law is made for sinners. It is not intended to be used
by those who have already found Christ and the way of faith through grace. The
list of those to whom the Law applies is not what the world would call
“politically correct.” Yet God is very clear on His choice of words. Even
everything that is contrary to sound teaching must be dealt with by Law. There
is a proper way of using the Law—by allowing it to destroy the fleshly ways of
man and to lead that sinful man to Christ. Any other use of the Law is
‘illegal’.
It is a sad state of a nation that increasingly promotes the idea that all life
styles are acceptable. We are becoming more concerned for the so-called ‘rights’
of the lawless than we are for the rights of the lawful. We ignore the Law of
God as we promote “Pro-choice” while denying any choice for the infant victim.
We are approaching “Sodom and
Gomorrah all over again. Lord come again and set things right!
Dear Father, I do not seek to follow the Law as a means of my own righteousness,
that has been secured by accepting Jesus by faith, but I truly want to see how
to promote Your Law as a means of correcting the society around me. There are
those who must be confronted about their evil and destructive ways. For their
own good and ultimate salvation they need to realize that Your Law is good and
holy. The Law will totally frustrate them and cause them to cry out “there must
be another way.” Their ultimate conclusion will then be that the Law shows us
the way to salvation as it leads us to realize that Christ has died for us and
totally fulfilled the Law by His death at the cross. (Romans 3:31). God Himself
has accomplished for man what man himself could not do.
Father, give me the proper boldness at the proper time. It is for my fellow man
that I have a broken heart. Show me Your way of tough love that will eventually
lead them to accept Jesus. In His precious name, Amen.
