May 10

Look among the nations! Observe! Be astonished! Wonder! Because I am doing something in your days—you would not believe if you were told. Habakkuk 1:5.

As I read the newspapers, or listen to news on the television, it is bewildering to see how confused and stressful the world system is behaving. My mind and heart can easily become misguided. I need to look behind the news and see the hand of God at work. He alone understands the strange ways of man, and He alone can weave His purposes into the disarray caused by our choices. My ways are often no different than those of the world, so I need to search for His ways, for they will keep me focused on what I am to do as He leads me along the path of life.

Today, Lord, show me Your love and grace that is at work among the nations. Oh, I know that the nations do not often listen to You, but I can make a difference in this world if I listen and obey. Let me not be discouraged by the wars and rumors of war. I sometimes fear for my security in the face of the terrorist’s threats. I can become focused on financial worries rather than trust in the fact that everything is Yours. Help me, today, to see how You can use the negative events of the day to turn people toward You. The world can be so frustrating, but that very fact causes us to search for new ways—and those ways are in You. Thank you for this walk we have with Jesus. Amen.
