March 6
By this we know that we are in Him; the one who says
he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. 1 John
2:5b,6.
The Christian life flows from Christ Himself, and this
passage affirms that we are to be conscious of the fact that we are in Jesus.
We can know this beyond any doubt, for without this abiding, dwelling life in
Jesus there can be no expression to our walk that gives honor to God. We can be
secure in this knowing.
To abide in Christ is to draw all of our strength, our
purpose for living, and the works of our faith from God Himself. Our fruit
bearing reflects who we are in Him. This fruit cannot be faked, modified, or
sustained by any source other than God. So as we walk this earth there is a
continual test to see if we are fruit bearers for Christ, or for ourselves.
Lord, I want to be a bearer of Your fruit!
Thank You, Father, for nurturing the vine. We want to be
healthy branches that carry the fruit of Your life to the world. A branch does
not dictate what manner of fruit is produces—thank You that You have chosen what
it is that we are to bear. As I go through this day, let me be ever mindful of
this fact. Only You can properly tend me, prune me, and use me to Your glory.
Amen.
