March 27

And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.  1 John 2:28.

Yes, we are indeed little children.  We have so much to learn about Jesus.  We have so much growing to do so that we can become like Him.  We have merely begun our life in Him.  John proclaims that we are to abide in Him.  The Greek word for this is to remain, or live, with Him.  On the surface that seems easy, but our old fleshly nature likes to try to improve upon this.  We use worldly resources to imagine how we can grow more rapidly—how we might impress others with our spirituality.  No, my friend, to abide in Him merely means to take by faith what He offers.  The vine from which we draw our life is Jesus, the Christ.  The Father is the great vinedresser.

Think about it.  Does a branch ever do anything other that remain attached?  It has no initiative of its own, no direct root into rich, moisture-laden soil.  No, it is dependent upon its attachment to the trunk or vine.  And it follows that the branch will bear fruit that reproduce the characteristics of the vine.

Oh, little children, we are fashioned in a marvelous way.  Our Heavenly Father gently takes care of us so that we can reproduce Christ in this world.  One day He will come for us and we shall dwell with Him forever and ever.  Thank You, Father.  Amen.
