March 21 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. 1 John 2:24,25. This is a wonderful promise from God: eternal life. John is revealing what the Spirit has told him; that when we hear and receive the message of Christ, that He died for us at the cross, that when we repent and invite Him into our life, that God will come and dwell within us. It is the mystery of Christ. We are to acknowledge that the Son, Jesus, is from the Father. They are one, just as we are one in them. In the Gospel of John we see that Jesus is the Christ, one with God the Father. But here in 1 John we discover the Christ that was seen, heard and touched. He walked among us and shared His life. We are to abide in Him. Sadly there are many who cannot imagine that Jesus was the Son of God. They envision Him as merely a man who was blessed in some special way. Yet we know, because He dwells in us, that He and the Father are one. These truths make a huge difference in the life of one who is following God. We cannot lead the Christian life without the Holy Spirit, who has anointed us at the time we accepted Jesus. Thank You Father, for making us one in Your Son. It is an eternal gift that we will discover bit by bit--forever. Amen. |
