March 2
Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things
passed away; behold, new things have come. Now all these things are from God,
who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of
reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:17,18.
I find that many Christians do not appreciate their new position in Christ. Some
are not even aware of it. Yet, we are a brand new creature, the old nature in
Adam was rendered powerless at the cross (from God’s viewpoint, as in Romans
6:6). We seem to fail at the process of reckoning, or believing, that all of
this is true. Often I have relied on my fleshly nature to try to solve problems,
and I must admit that all too frequently I am likely to continue this futile
process. Hopefully, little by little, I will learn to reckon my life as newly
created in Christ. Then I will find encouragement and liberating truth. I can
truly be free from the grips of Adam.
It seems that many of us gradually go through a process where we become fed up
with our old nature. That is progress, indeed. For then we can seek the fruit of
the new life. We can properly claim that we are messengers of the truth,
ambassadors if you will, that proclaim the message of reconciliation. Then we
are telling the world of our own reconciliation, not just with words, but with
living proof that they will see and touch.
Lord, today make my old life in Adam more intolerable. Let me not be swayed by
circumstances; instead let me rely totally on my position in Jesus. There is a
transforming power in that view of life. He alone can cause me to focus on what
is true, what is just, what is pure, and cause me to praise Him all the more.
That is where my life is truly found—I am increasingly tired of the old way of
looking at things. Thank You, Jesus, for who You are. Amen.
