March 18
Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing
and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and
jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh
in regard to its lusts. Romans 13:13,14.
The Christian is continually faced with choices about the
manner in which he/she conducts life. The world system will offer choices that
drag us downward into deeds that we would wish to hide. It is darkness not
fitting of the Lord Jesus. So we are to arrange our lives in submission to
Jesus, where there is no provision for these deeds of darkness.
How does one ‘put on’ the Lord Jesus Christ? From the
vantage point of the Father we are seen as clothed in Christ when we accept Him
by faith. But there is more to this. There is the practical result of
submitting to Jesus in all that we do. We put Him on when we trust and obey,
when we seek Him in all that we do, and when we praise Him for His faithfulness
as He reaches out to us. He becomes our leader, and we represent Him in all
that we do. We are living by the Word of God; a new seed has been planted
within us that causes us to speak and to act in accordance with His will.
We are not left alone to lead the Christian life. The
victory has been won, and we have been given the Holy Spirit to fill us with the
Christ-life. So my friends, with each choice that you make, give Jesus the
chance to lead you into righteous living. He is patient to wait for us to
grant Him permission to lead, and I would be foolish to make any provision for
fleshly deeds.
Thank You, Father. You have provided the way of Jesus to
guide us. Let me walk this day in harmony with His wishes. I want to be
clothed and abiding in Jesus. Amen.
