Mar. 19
–for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely
powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 2 Corinthians 10: 4.
It is amazing how we tend to envision the Lord’s work. We want to bring our own
weapons and tools to accomplish His goals. Certainly Lord, we say, you will need
my intellect, my talents, and the assistance of as many friends as I can muster
to Your cause. But it is not necessarily so, and the Lord patiently waits until
we surrender to His will.
Gideon understood all of this when he gathered 32,000 men to defeat Midian. He
watched as the Lord showed him how to reduce the number to 300. And how about
the weapons of choice? Trumpets and pitchers with torches inside! Surely this
can not be, Lord. Yet he proceeded in faith and broke the pitchers upon the
Lord’s command. (Judges 7: 16) Can you believe there is no indication that they
had to stop and light the torches. Somehow they must have been glowing inside
the pitchers-- ready to illuminate the scene at any moment.
This is an awesome lesson for us. The pitchers are a reminder of ourselves, for
we are merely vessels of clay designed for His purposes. We carry a treasure in
this vessel that will “shine” upon command by the Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 4:
7). It’s power is beyond our comprehension.
Thank your, Lord, for your choice of weapons. We can only follow in amazement.
Amen.
