Mar. 16

Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. Genesis 2: 7.

What a glorious moment as man breathed his first breath! In a very real sense we were there in Adam. Each day, as we live on this earth, we give thanks for every breath which is a constant reminder that we have received a precious gift from God. How could it be otherwise? God has intended from before the beginning of time that He would give of Himself to us. His breath into Adam is the first deposit toward an ultimate gift of His own nature, in the form of Christ.
Oh that Adam would have fully appreciated this gift and not gone his own way. He could have partaken of the tree of life, and lived forever with Christ within. But we know, deep down inside, that we would have done the same thing as Adam.

Yet, even now, through the grace of God, we can receive of this “tree of life”. Paul cries out “it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me”, Galatians 2:20. God began a good work in Adam that can be continued in spite of our rebellion if we will only believe upon the Lord Jesus.

Lord, as I begin this day, remind me of my life in You. As I draw each breath, let me know that you are with me. Let me know that your very nature is seeking to express Christ to this world that surrounds me. Let me follow you in faith, knowing that your love will sustain me. Amen.
