Mar. 10
The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9.
I have often wondered where the balance is to be found between my planning and
the will of God. After all, I am an engineer who has been trained to plan. But I
do not want to plan my way out of His will, however inadvertently. Deep down I
know that God sees the way clearly, while I can only view my way dimly. If He is
to direct my steps I must allow for my plans to be placed at His feet. Selfish
motives must yield to the work of the Cross. Attention-getting devices must not
rule the way.
Today I would ask Lord that You give me the humility and patience to allow You
to direct my steps. You are walking with me, and I never want to get
ahead—especially when it appears that my choice of the way is so clear. I want
only to wait on You. Only You can chose each of my steps—through difficult
moments as well as those that appear easy to solve in my own strength. By my own
choices I might overlook my neighbor or the stranger who needs to be loved.
Certainly Your guiding hand will cause my steps to be in the right direction and
the right time and place. Thank you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
