June 29

But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make. Then the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as the potter does?” declares the Lord. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel. Jeremiah 18:4-6.

In the beginning we were fashioned from clay by the master potter. Yet, after the fall of man, the potter examined the vessel and found it spoiled. It could no longer hold things of the spirit. It became a vessel to stand on its own merits, rather than the merits of God. It was destined to not last forever—it was to suffer death and destruction. It was not fit to contain Life as it was intended to be.

So the Potter has fashioned a new vessel—a new creation. Those of the old vessel who come to Jesus by faith, who ask Him to fill them with His nature, are now refashioned to contain the Spirit of God. The Potter does not repair the old vessel. He crushes and destroys it to allow Him to start anew with a pattern, a new mold that is in the likeness of Christ. We are now fashioned for eternal Life.

Father, thank You for making a new creation that contains the life of Jesus. It is the treasure within that sustains us. Let me walk with You today in a manner that does not draw attention to the vessel, but instead draws attention to the treasure. I trust You as the Potter to make all of this true. Thank You in the name of Jesus.
