June 25

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

So often we think that we are responsible for the maturing sense of God in our lives. We think that some credit is to be given to us as we walk with Him. Yet this verse clearly says that God is the author and finisher of this good work that we perceive. God began this work before the foundation of the world, and He will continue throughout eternity. I need only have faith in Him, and the works will follow. He is trustworthy to perform the work even when I am not faithful.

All perfection is in Jesus. That is the goal, to show a lifestyle that fully models Him. I often think that I am showing little progress, but I need to trust that the good work goes on because of God’s persistent love and grace. I look forward to that great day when Jesus returns and shows us the completion of His work.

Today, Lord Jesus, let me rest in the confidence that You are with me and working within me. My mindset is being transformed so that I can perceive things in the way that You do. I will have the faith to work alongside You and to fulfill the life of a servant toward all persons around me. I can only do this because of Your constant work within me. Amen.
