June 23
Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever
circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know
how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the
secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering
need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13.
Paul is explaining the life that seeks only to praise God and His Son, Jesus.
Paul could actually be content in all manner of circumstances because he was so
focused on the things of God—not the things of man. I am particularly concerned
for the people of this world who have not discovered this approach to life. I
have been told that many do not want the Lord Jesus to return because they are
so busy acquiring the “good life” with material things. We need a wholesale
change in our priorities.
When we get along with humble means we are able to identify with the humble of
heart. When we get along in prosperity we can identify with the prosperous. Is
it our task to choose with whom we are to get along? I think not. Every step of
our life becomes a testimony to those who are watching. They know when we are
coveting and seeking more “things.” They also will notice when we are bent upon
giving to the people of this world—when we are more interested in helping others
than in helping ourselves.
Lord, I ask today that my walk with You would be a testimony of being content.
Not a surface contentment, but a true, heart-felt relationship with God, the
Creator of all things.
Take my worldly priorities and burn them. Replace them with Your priorities. I
can truly do all things when I seek Your direction for my life. My life is
actually to be Your life here on earth. Let me live that way, and I thank You in
the name of Jesus
