Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body
that you should obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your
body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as
those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to
God. Romans 6:12,13.
We believe that Christ has died for our sins, but we
sometimes have difficulty with the fact that our old nature in Adam was also put
on the cross. In other words, our sins are covered but we need to realize that
we will not be mastered by the principle of sin. The question is, “Can I now
see that I am a new creation—the old has passed away?”
If we are to be Christ-like in all that we do, we need to
consider that God has asked us to yield to the righteousness of Christ. We are
no longer slaves to unrighteousness. The choice is mine. To allow the old Adam
life to dominate is to miss all the blessings that God wishes to bestow.
I must admit that this belief in the new creation is
strangely difficult. We have been so well trained in the old nature. I can
only conclude that God has done such a wonderful feat in slaying the old nature,
He has done what no man could imagine, so that we must somehow think that it was
impossible. Yes, that is the point—it was impossible for man. But with God all
things are possible.
Father, set me on the path of accepting the impossible.
You love me so much that You are willing to transform me into a new design, a
new life, that embraces all that is in Christ. I cannot fathom all of this, but
let me accept it by faith. Amen.
