June 2

So he went with them; and when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, my master! For it was borrowed.” Then the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And when he showed him the place, he cut off a stick, and threw it in there, and made the iron float. And he said, “Take it up for yourself.” So he put out his hand and took it. 2 Kings 6: 4-7.

There are many things that the mind of man cannot comprehend. But God comprehends all things. We could argue about the probability of the stick, thrown into the water, falling exactly in the right place to make the iron float. That would be a futile exercise, for in the mind of God there is no probability—He makes events happen with certainty. With Him all things are possible.

Elisha, the man of God in this story, shares the conviction that God can do all things. We are to be the same way. How many of us would be as bold as Elisha as he took such actions? Certainly Elisha is showing faith that should be common to all of us—if we would just trust God in the same way. I am afraid we are falling short in the faith department.

I want to be like Elisha. Thank You Lord that You are willing to treat all of us, all who have accepted Jesus, as servants that can do all things. There is no need for calculated strategies on our part. We only need to listen and obey. Thank You for all that we have in Jesus. He is there for our every need and for all the needs of those around us. Amen.
