June 19

Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously. Daniel 6:10.

King Darius had signed an injunction against anyone praying to any god or man besides himself. This was a plot of the commissioners of the kingdom against Daniel. The response of Daniel is immediate and dramatic. He continues to pray at the window of his home in full view of anyone passing by. Daniel knows his Lord, and no man can take away his right to talk and listen to God. No mind for the consequences; his God will be sufficient for all of his needs.

You know the story. After the tattle-tails informed the king, Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den. Who is the ultimate victor—Daniel and his Lord, of course.

Lord, I need this lesson every day. No matter what the world thinks, no matter how the world tries to get me to compromise, I will look only to You. There is no need to worry about the consequences, for You will provide the victory. I do not even need to know the details of Your plans, for they are always intended to bring glory to You, not me. Thank You for this day in which I have the opportunity to be in a ‘window’ that shows the world how much I love You. Amen.
