July 8

My heart overflows with a good theme; I address my verses to the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. Thou at fairer than the sons of men; grace is poured upon Thy lips; therefore God has blessed Thee forever. Psalm 45:1,2.

This Psalm is a song of love. Out of the heart springs thoughts and words that the mind cannot grasp. In a spiritual way the author of this Psalm is describing Jesus. Man does not do full justice to the beauty of Jesus—it is through these inspired words that we can begin to appreciate the glory, the majesty, the well-spring of joy as Jesus marries His bride. I encourage all of you to read the entire Psalm. Also read Revelation 19:9 to get a glimpse of the marriage that we will experience as we behold Jesus.

I do not feel we can fully understand the beauty of Jesus. It can not be grasped immediately, for we will spend eternity absorbing this product of God’s grace. I must admit that it is sometimes difficult for a man to appreciate beauty—we are sometimes interested in more mundane, “manly” things. Yet there is a lesson in this Psalm that we all need to hear. Jesus is the ultimate object of all praise and glory—there is no person or thing in the universe of equal stature. He is the great I AM.

We gain some glimpse of beauty as we behold nature around us. We men are in awe over the beauty of our wives—both inward and outward. Yet all of these glimpses will fade in comparison with the beauty of Jesus. Let us share this with our friends and neighbors as we walk this earth. Thank You, Father, for making all of this possible. As an ultimate, triumphant expression of love You have given us Your Son, Jesus. In His name we pray. Amen.
