July 31

Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.  Ezekiel 36:26.

God was speaking to the Israelites—that they were to be restored to new faith in Him.  Yet, this passage also portrays the gift of the new creation within the believer of Christ.  We are given a new heart; one tuned to the Holy Spirit.  That new nature wants only to respond to the Spirit’s guidance.  It will only seek the best for others as it reaches out in love for fellow man.

Yes, Lord, I needed a new heart.  My old nature places conditional love on others.  I need new doses of unconditional love so that I may relate kindly to all that I encounter.  God is always looking for a man after His own heart, so He has freely given one to us from Himself.

Today, Lord, I ask that I may strongly sense the guidance of Your Holy Spirit.  I know He will speak to my heart.  My mind will reason through various things, but I need to listen to the still, quiet voice of Your Spirit.  My new heart is design perfectly to do this.  I need no manmade device or training to respond—I just need faith and obedience to You.  Thank You for this precious, complete gift of this new heart.  Amen.
