July 30

And for this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received from us the word of God’s message, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.  1 Thessalonians 2:13.

Paul is thanking the believers in Thessalonica for their belief that God is the author of the word that they had received.  We are to ever keep this in mind—the Bible is a revelation from God.  The words contained therein are not the words of men, but they are the living, creative, power-giving life of God.  Yes, Jesus is the Word.  He was with God in the beginning and He is God.

I believe that we can receive and believe in the word of God more fully as we meditate and pray upon it—especially in our quiet moments.  It is in those times that the voices of men are not contending for my attention.  Only the Spirit of God has my attention.  I may spend most of my time just listening, and I know that God is listening as well.

The word of God performs a work in us that consistently reveals more of Christ.  I could not grasp everything of God in a moment, or in many moments, but I can slowly learning from Him in a way that reveals just what I need for the day ahead of me.  In that manner I can rest in the thought that He is leading and I am following—just as He desires.

We can be thankful as well that we are given the immeasurable honor of speaking the word to others.  May those who hear us also see that we live the life that we speak.

Thank You, Father, for the privilege of receiving Your word.  You, as a gracious and loving God, have chosen to reveal Yourself to us.  We are receiving Christ as in mystery that is slowly being explained.  Thank You and Amen.
