July 27
Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth
and sing for joy and sing praises. Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre; with
the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn shout
joyfully before the King, the Lord. Psalm 98:4-6.
We are to be people who sing to the Lord. Oh I sometimes
wonder if my notes are on key, but it will not matter. For the Lord looks upon
the heart. He will know what my intentions are. Charles Spurgeon says of this
verse, “God’s praises should be performed in the best possible manner, but their
sweetness mainly lies in spiritual qualities. The concords of faith and
repentance, the harmonies of obedience and love are true music in the ear of the
Most High.”
I would recommend that you look to the heavens and sing
praises to God. I find this most possible in the mornings or the evenings, as I
watch the rising or falling of the sun. Oh I may just sing in my heart—why
startle everyone within hearing distance! The Lord can hear the melody of my
heart anyway.
There is something that releases us when we sing to the
Lord. We are directly recognizing Him when we do this; recognizing Him as
creator and object of our love. I am sure He is pleased, and He probably is
singing with us. Can you hear Him?
Today, Lord, let me begin with a song in my heart, I can
only believe that you put it there just so I could release it back to You. It
will be exciting to walk with You today, and I look forward to sharing thoughts
and words with You. Amen.
