July 13

Do not let your speech cause you to sin and do not say in the presence of the messenger of God that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry on account of your voice and destroy the work of your hands? For in many dreams and in many words there is emptiness. Rather, fear God. Ecclesiastes 5:6,7.

Been there, done that! There are so many times where I regretted what I said. Flushed by the heat of the moment, I thought I could correct someone or say something that was an attempt to make me look better. My words only destroyed any works that might have been well taken.

I also am a dreamer. Visions of success that were not grounded in the Lord have haunted me. They cause too much sleeplessness, too much wasted energy, and time spent on self—rather than serving others.

Heavenly Father, I ask that this day be devoted to You and to Your Son, Jesus. Let my words be few, and then when I speak let them be Your words. Let me not dream of empty desires that do not glorify You. I want to discover new fear of You. All wisdom is to be found in that manner. I trust that Your Holy Spirit will work Your way into my life this day. Amen.
