Joy Snatchers.
Is there a “little sin” nipping at our heals—following us, haunting, harassing
and annoying us? We argue, “I can’t help it”, it’s just who I am. It’s my “old
nature” showing up, or it’s that “fleshly thing” again. We try to ignore it,
learn to live with it, and it goes on and on and on stealing our joy. Why do we
try to “deal with it” every day instead of stopping it?
In Ephesians 6:12 the Scripture reminds us that we are not struggling with the
things of the flesh, but we are struggling in the spiritual realm—that evil
spirit who wants authority over our thoughts, our desires, and who eventually
wants to make us miserable. Satan is having a great time stealing our joy. The
Holy Spirit is prompting us to offer that “old nature” desire to be slain and
gone, but Satan is reminding us of the pleasure and desires, and the battle goes
on. Confusion, darkness and despair take over.
2 Corinthians 5:17 declares “we are not the same anymore.” We are blameless and
holy. We are free of any struggle because our faith in Christ as our savior is
also our rock of victory. Jesus gives us His power everyday to declare our new
life in Him. It is not by our might but by His Spirit that we have joy. He does
not invade our private desires and habits unless we invite Him, and He is just
waiting patiently for us to invite Him to take control.
Let’s not settle for the “maybe tomorrow I’ll change.” Why suffer another minute
with something in our lives we know we don’t want. Let’s affirm in our mind and
hearts that we have freedom today from any hindrance or snare, and we are free
indeed in Christ!
He will restore our joy. Praise Him! Hallelujah!
