January 9
For we know that if the earthly tent, which is our
house, is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands,
eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be
clothed with our dwelling from heaven; inasmuch as we, having put it on, shall
not be found naked. 2 Corinthians 5:1-3.
We have a new body, established for eternity. Sometimes we
long for it because our earthly body is tired and wearing down. Our new body is
waiting for us, made by God. We shall not be found naked, which is God’s way of
saying that we are not found unrighteous. The righteousness of Christ clothes
us.
There is a case to be made for being heavenly minded. Out
of that perspective will come insights and wisdom that will serve us well in our
encounters with those here on earth. Our citizenship is truly in heaven.
God will never be satisfied with things made with hands.
There is no need for hammer and nails, or clever biology and chemistry to
manufacture new creations. God has an eternal perspective where things are
spoken into existence. That is what we are and shall be.
Father, we are in awe of Your creation and the plans for
eternity. It is by grace that we can share in this, and we are eternally
grateful for this relationship with You. Thank You that that relationship
starts here on earth—we merely pass into a new eternal tent when we see You
waiting for us. Amen.
