January 8
“The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound
of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone
who is born of the Spirit.” “But he who practices the truth comes to the light,
that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” John 3:8,21.
Many of us who read this first verse come away with the
idea that the Spirit is unknown and totally unpredictable. But that is true
only for the unbeliever. Man alone cannot define the Holy Spirit or control
Him. But there are those who turn their life over to Jesus and become born
again. Therein lies the explanation—we are joined to the Holy Spirit who takes
us on a path that leads us into the image of Christ.
As we walk in the truth—Jesus being the Truth—we discover
that our deeds are in the light. We are exposed to the Light of God in a
wonderful way. We see that our life and the goals for it are being shaped by
God. The Holy Spirit becomes in this sense very predictable, for we know that
the goal of our walk with God is to become more and more like Jesus. We shall
become just as He is, fully mature and complete in the new nature in Christ.
The Holy Spirit is our friend, our companion and guide. He
would never take us in an uncontrolled, random direction. Nor would He attempt
to trick us or deceive us into partaking of something that was not of the nature
of God. So we serve a God who is forever seeking to provide the very best for
us.
Thank You Father, we adore You. We are so blessed. Let me
trust in You all the more for what You have provided in Your Son. In His name
we pray. Amen.
