January 4
Thus says the Lord, ‘Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool.
Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may
rest? For My hand made all these things, thus all these things came into being,”
declares the Lord. But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and
contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word. Isaiah 66:1,2.
The thought of the Creator needing some rest is both reassuring and startling.
Yet, we know He rested on the seventh day. What is far more important is the
suggestion that He looks to the humble and contrite of spirit for a place of
rest. Oh how I want Him to rest in me! Come, Lord Jesus, I am available for Your
rest!
As much as I want to be a restful place for Him, I also realize that I bring
much confusion and other baggage into my life. Can He still rest in the presence
of my imperfect behavior? I believe the answer is a resounding “Yes.” I only
have to realize that the Holy Spirit already resides in my heart. He has come to
me by His own choice in response to my faith placed in Jesus. He provides a safe
sanctuary for my Lord.
Today, Father, may You find rest in my heart. You alone can produce a humble and
contrite spirit within my spirit. The busy-ness of the day can be replaced by
the quietness of Your Spirit. And I also will find rest. We will rest together.
We will share Your words, and I fully expect to tremble! Thank You and Amen.
