January 22
The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the
cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the
Lord, and have not acted wickedly against my God. For all His ordinances were
before me; and as for His statutes, I did not depart from them. I was also
blameless toward Him, and I kept myself from my iniquity. Therefore the Lord has
recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness before
His eyes. 2 Samuel 22:21-25.
These words are part of David’s Psalm of Praise, just preceding his death. The
words are remarkable because they totally express the grace of God. In our
earthly minds, with memory for the details of David’s life and his sin, we are
all too quick to wonder how David could be so confident of his position before
God. But when we think so blindly we are forgetting the unfathomable ways of
God; that He totally forgives the one whom shows trust in Him. David knew how to
confess; to turn away from his sin, and to walk with God. David became a man
whose heart was like God’s heart. We are to do likewise.
When David speaks of his righteousness he is not talking about
self-righteousness. He fully knows that only God’s righteousness is above
reproach. In the miraculous mind of God we can be seen as clean and clothed in
Christ.
Lord Jesus, I want to be like David. There is confidence in his walk with you.
He is not dwelling on the past; he is only focused on Your great mercy and love.
I can only believe that with that faith I can be more useful to You. I want to
express Your life more fully, and You are prepared to guide me in a manner that
will do just that. Thank You and Amen.
