January 2

Do not love the world, nor the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.  1 John 2:15,16.

Perhaps it is due to the time of the year, the so-called “holidays”, but my heart is a little heavy over the way the world system tries to lead us astray.  On all sides we are asked to love the things of the world.  We are asked to “lust” over food and attractive possessions.  The world says that we are to measure our “success” by what we have achieved or acquired. We have corrupted the real meaning of Christmas—trying to hide it in tinsels and brightly colored lights on trees.

Let us return to the simple expression of our love for Jesus Christ.  He alone is what Christmas is about.  The Savior of the world has come, and will come again to take us into His holy city—for all eternity.  If God had wanted us to lust after the things of the flesh He would not have placed His Son in a lowly manger.  All things are to be summed up in Jesus.  He fulfills all our desire and He is the ultimate expression of life.

Today, Father, let me see Jesus more clearly.  Let me know beyond any doubt that my priorities are focused only on Him.  He will cause all my dealings with family and friends, with strangers, to fall into place.  I will find that the simple things of life, the love and fellowship for all around me, are the final expressions of my purpose for being on this earth.  I will find complete satisfaction in serving others, for Jesus is the ultimate servant.  Thank you, in the name of Jesus.  Amen.
